Public Cloud Manager

What I do at King's Service Centre

In the Public Cloud team, our key responsibilities are the design and provision of new services into the Azure cloud estate, as well as the maintenance of existing services. In order to carry out these responsibilities effectively, it's vital that all team members stay up to date with the latest cloud technologies. My role is to ensure that the team has the correct capacity and tooling to be able to achieve this.

Why King's Service Centre

The King's Service Centre has really got it right in terms of work life balance. They've embraced remote working which cuts out the majority of commuting time and allows more time to be spent on non-work activities.

You'll always feel supported in your role at King's. This is due to fantastic chain of command, managers and leaders at all levels will offer support and guidance when needed to resolve any issues that may arise.

Who am I?

I started my career in IT as cabling engineer for a managed service provider. Eventually, I earned a position as a 1st line engineer within the same company and from there, progressed to a 2nd line position. This position benefited my progression in IT hugely due to the scope of the technologies I was exposed to. Managed service providers look after a lot of customers with varying technologies and systems in place. The experience I gained by supporting these customers gave me a solid foundation for my career.

My first experience with IT management came when I was promoted to the role of service desk supervisor and then to operations manager. These roles allowed me to see the IT service from a different perspective. I was no longer solely involved with supporting customers or provisioning services but responsible for making sure a team could carry out the functions it was designated to perform. These are the roles that I feel I get the most out of, as seeing a team succeed is much more rewarding to me than my own personal successes.

The experiences I've had in these roles have led me to my current position as a service manager for King's. It's a challenging role, but the most enjoyable one I've had to date.

Advice for prospective candidates

Although technical knowledge and experience are great to have, these things can always be learnt. In my experience, it's having the correct attitude and willingness to improve that make people stand out.
